There are more National Parks, Monuments and natural scenic attractions within a 150 mile radius of Cortez than anywhere else on earth.

The Navajos called Cortez Tsaya-toh, meaning "rock water." Much of America's early history happened in this region. The Ancient Pueblo culture, the Spanish Missionaries, the El Camino Real—all of these thrived in the region.

Native American Culture, the Mountain Men, Cowboys, the U.S. Calvary and the boom and bust economies of the mining camps are all a part of the colorful history of the area.

Not only is history at your fingertips—there's fishing, skiing, hunting, biking, hiking, outdoor sports for every season, great golf courses, cultural centers in Cortez and all of the surrounding communities.
